Cricket Match Recap 15/05/2016

Well, my beloved Sharks won 62-0 and it wasn’t my favourite sporting moment of the day! That title went to the HDD Bears in their great victory over the Western Heat at Pearce Reserve.

Captain Dane won the toss and decided to bat first with Tate and Bohman heading out to face the Heat’s heat. It turned out there wasn’t a lot of heat but there was some swing with the new orange pill and Michael got cleaned up early doors for 5 from 6. When your match correspondent picked out mid wicket and fell for 17 from 10 the Bears were in a little trouble.

Enter Dane and Ray, who combined beautifully with a mix of brute strength (Dane) and exquisite timing (Ray) in a partnership of 80+ from not many. Dane retired with 50 from 23, which included a couple of giant sixes – one of which put a dent the size of a small child in the roof of a poorly parked van. Ray fell for 37 from 24 and the Heat clawed their way back into the contest as the boundaries dried up. Richard got a run a ball 16 and we finished with the Murray and Imraan taking us to 158 from our 20.

The Heat innings started in a measured fashion but the Bears lacked bite and soon had one opener retire with 53 from 35 and the other opener still in and looking dangerous. Given their RR we knew we were a chance if we could just take a couple of wickets……….enter Swifty!!!!!

In his second over he bowled their opener and next ball had their mountain of a man skipper caught at long on. I sensed a hatrick (and I’m not just saying that now!) and Michael also seemed confident – although the crowd (which included his wife) was a little uncomfortable with his repeated use of the words threesome! There was a real hush around Kings Langley as Swifty ambled in off his 6 step approach and boom – HATRICK!!!!!! And clean bowled too!

The Heat never recovered and the Bears secured their 2nd win of the season. Swifty finished with 4 for 24 and the orange match ball. Special mention to Rich for opening up and finishing with 0 for 22 from 4 and Dane with 1 for 21 from his 4. Awesome effort Bears!!!
